Face West Fitness Classes

At FWF, we believe that people should exercise in the natural environment, outdoors and away from the stresses of work and everyday life, preferably with other people!

For some people, gyms are a daunting prospect. The machines, the type of people and the fact that it is indoors can be off putting. What we are saying is that there is a great alternative to treadmills, sweaty seats, mirrors and 'judgement' IF that environment doesn't do it for you!

The FWF Class

These classes are graded by ability group and are designed for ALL abilities and have a military flavour. Classes are for those just starting to exercise who want to lose weight, to the already very fit.
The FWF class take place outdoors in parks/open areas & on beaches in the Oban area, please download our timetable for full information. Each class lasts for an hour, and at FWF we cater for all ability levels. Our instructor will ensure that no one is made to feel left out. They will motivate and encourage you, but above all make the hour fun. They are experts at getting the best out of people!

What will I need to bring to a FWF Class?

All you will need to bring is an attitude to get fit, a sense of humour and suitable clothing for the conditions. Water will be provided and distributed during the water break by your instructor.

More Information

FWF Classes are also very social. We get people working together and foster a supportive group environment. However, be under no illusion, we will make you work to the best of your ability, and the classes will be different and challenging every time.

Each class is divided into ability groups and starts with a warm up. This is followed by a full 50 minutes of effective and varied fitness training (admit it, have you ever done that in the gym?!), broken up only by a water break in between.

FWF Buggy Fitness Class - calling new mums to exercise

Classes are an hour long, and usually involve a 2-3 mile route in total. Classes start with a moderate warm up walk, moving into a power walk or run to raise our heart rates. This is when we start to burn fat! Each class includes group exercises specifically selected to strengthen and tone particular muscle groups, and enable us to cope with the demands of motherhood. We finish off with a cool down and stretch.

Included in the sessions are tips and techniques on adopting and maintaining better posture and of course the chance to chat and make new friends.

ANY PRAM IN GOOD ORDER WILL BE FINE FOR THE WORKOUT.
YOU DO NOT NEED A THREE WHEELER!

When can I start?

You may join a class as soon as you have had your GP check (usually at 6 weeks postnatal), C-Sections: wait 10 weeks and they have OK'd you to exercise. You don't need a specific pram or buggy, simply download the Pre/Post Natal Health Questionnaire on the website and bring it along to your free trial class.

What to wear?

  • Layers of clothes, as even in the coldest weather we can get very warm.
  • Hat scarf and definitely gloves (for mummy and baby).
  • Good trainers or walking shoes.
  • Good fitting sports bra (or two!).

What not to forget?

  • Drink for mummy and baby.
  • Rain cover / sunshade.
  • Sun cream.
  • Snack for baby / toddler.
  • Toys / books for toddler.

Preparation

  • Feed baby before coming to class, this means baby isn't hungry and you can get an hour for YOU. If you're breastfeeding this also ensures you are more comfortable to exercise.

What if it rains?

  • We at FWF exercise in all weathers (unless the Met Office is suggesting we don't go out!) so come prepared.
  • Remember, "There is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing!!".
  • Although you may get warm, the babies are not exercising, so remember your ‘buggy snuggle’, cosy toes or blanket for the cold days - we ‘buggy’ rain or shine.

Are Instructors qualified?

Yes, all our instructors are fully qualified and insured, to ensure you have a safe workout that will be effective for your ongoing fitness needs and to gain maximum results

Benefits

Benefits include not having to arrange or pay for a babysitter or having to wait until the evening when your partner arrives home.  As a new mum more often than not by 7.00pm you are feeling dead on your feet so it makes sense to exercise in the morning, with friends and where your baby IS welcome to come along too!

FWF Power Walk Class

Why Should I Join into a FWF Power Walk Class?

This class is designed for ALL ABILITIES , and specifically, for those looking for a low-impact workout. We believe in exercising outdoors in a natural environment. Your instructor will take you through a series of exercises commencing with a warm-up.
Classes are grouped by ability and your instructor will ensure that you receive a challenging and motivational workout.

4 Good Reasons to Join a Group Session

We do low-impact exercises which are kinder to your knees than jogging and high-impact aerobics and just as effective for fitness.

We workout in the fresh air, so you escape the gym and absorb more Vitamin D.
Workouts are designed by qualified fitness professionals to meet your abilities and to keep you focussed and stimulated.

Exercise with likeminded people, so you have a greater sense of fun, there is also safety in numbers.

50s Fresh Air Fitness

What should I expect during a class?

If you are looking for an alternative workout to the regular exercise class that offers you something different and an opportunity to socialise then this is your class.

This class is designed specifically for the over 50’s. Starting with a gentle walk we will then progress onto gentle mobility, flexibility and stretching movements. Everybody is encouraged to work at their own pace. All of the equipment will be supplied by your instructor and the class format will be varied from week to week to ensure that a whole body workout is achieved.

You may like to bring a towel and we encourage that you arrive well hydrated, there is no need to bring water as this will be supplied.

FWF PowerFit Class

This is a combination class based mostly on power-walking but fused with some light interval training, body conditioning and core workouts. PowerFit is graded and suitable for all abilities. Classes are for those just starting to exercise who want to lose weight, to the already very fit.
